Established over 200 years ago, Welfield was a fully working country estate employing over 20 full time staff most of whom lived on the estate. There were gardeners growing the highest quality vegetables and nurturing the most beautiful gardens, farmers who looked after cows, sheep, pigs and took care of the fields and hedges. There were also foresters who hand planted, maintained the woods as well as felling them. Not to mention the incredibly important team that looked after the house and the people who lived there. Some of the Deans’ children who started working and living on the estate over 100 years ago, still live and work here today!
Times have now changed and the estate has moved on and diversified from traditional farming to letting high quality cottages, grass letting to local farmers, growing premium quality Christmas trees and selling firewood locally as well as forestry.
At Welfield we have been growing premium quality Christmas trees, both Noble firs and Nordman firs for over 20 years. With our expert team we have carefully nurtured each tree over several years to ensure we maintain the high standards of today’s demand. We have established long term business relationships by supplying leading garden centres, dealers and many sellers throughout the UKÂ . More recently we have enjoyed our own successful retail outlet meaning that our customers can be assured of only extremely freshly cut Christmas trees.
Our firewood is only sourced from storm damaged trees or naturally fallen trees from our estate. The trees are cut to a more manageable size and are then moved to our processing plant, where they are machine split, bagged and stored in drying containers. A specially designed building allows the logs to dry naturally to a specific humidity which is perfect for firewood. Logs are ordered online and we deliver locally.
